PS5 vs Xbox Series X Sales Rivalry

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

In the last few months of 2020, the two rivalling companies Microsoft and Sony, like Goku and Frieza, have decided to both release the long-awaited Xbox Series X and the PS5 during the month of November. Coincidence or not, the demand for these consoles was extremely high (as seen from the pre-orders) and assuming that people didn’t have much to do during quarantine, the demand was justified.

Following the release of both consoles, they sold out so fast that restocking fell behind and shortage became a problem. Furthermore, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic many physical retailers have been unable to supply the consoles physically, meaning that many People have resorted to relying on major online retailers. With the PS5 promising better game graphics and FPS for games such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, God of War and many others, the PS5 saw more demand initially. As for the Xbox Series X, stocking wasn‘t as big of an issue due to the higher demand for the PS5. That said, with the shortage of the PS5, the Xbox Series X has started to regain its popularity as it became an alternative to the PS5, especially given their selection of common games between both consoles.

With the continuation of the pandemic, I doubt the excitement for these consoles will die down anytime soon. I would hope that more consoles and games are released for the public to enjoy and interact with globally.
